Lay it out
One spread per month plus pages for the birth and first birthday makes 28 to 32 pages. A square book of 21 × 21 cm takes portrait and landscape photos equally well.

Take the monthly photo from the same height and angle each time.
Photo book or layflat
A 32-page 21 × 21 cm photo book costs from €24.36, a layflat from €35.35. The layflat opens without a fold, so a photo can fill the spread. For grids of small photos, the photo book is enough. See photo book or layflat.

Room to write by hand
Leave a white box on some pages and choose matte paper, which takes pen better than gloss.
Birth tile
Sizes
A tile of 15 × 15 cm (from €10.99) or 20 × 20 cm (from €16.99) with a photo. The 15 × 15 also comes in a wooden or black frame.
Matte or glossy
Matte has no reflections. Glossy is sharper and water-resistant, for a bathroom or changing table.
File
156 × 156 mm or 206 × 206 mm including 3 mm bleed. For a photo, 1800 or 2400 pixels square gives 300 dpi.
Text
Name as on the birth certificate, date, time, weight and length, at least 10 mm from the edge.
