Upload pages in reading order
You don't need to impose. For a stapled magazine, upload a PDF with the pages in reading order, as single pages or spreads; we split spreads and you check the preview. In A4 portrait the cover is in that PDF (first two and last two pages). In A5 landscape, A4 landscape and 21 × 21 cm the cover is a separate file, back and front side by side.
Page count: a multiple of 4
Each folded sheet is four pages, so a stapled zine has 24, 28, 32 and so on up to 60. In A4 portrait the cover counts in those pages; in the other sizes it comes on top.

Two pages short? Add a colophon or contributors page rather than blank pages, which look like a printing error.

Size
A4 portrait, A4 landscape, A5 landscape or 21 × 21 cm. Set your document to it before you start.

Bleed and margins
Run backgrounds 3 mm past the edge. Keep text 5 mm inside, a bit more near the staples.

Scans
Scan collage and drawings at 300 dpi at printed size, line work in one colour at 600 dpi. For comics, see comic printing.

Export
One PDF in reading order. A separate cover is 426 × 151 mm with bleed for A5 landscape. Export settings: print-ready PDF guide.

Proof, then the run
Order one copy, read it on paper, then order up to 50. The price per copy is the same at any quantity.
A riso look in full colour
Two or three colours
We print in full colour. Use a small palette of flat colours and set overlaps to multiply for the mixed colour.
Halftones and grain
Turn photos into a coarse one-colour halftone and add light noise to flat areas.
Slightly off-register
Shift one colour layer half a millimetre. More than a millimetre looks like a mistake.
Neon prints duller
Fluorescent pink on screen comes out as a strong, non-glowing pink. Check it on a proof.
