Ordering a proof copy

  1. 1

    Order the same book

    Same size, binding, paper and cover as the order that follows. A proof in a different format tells you little.

    Get the file right first

    Embedded fonts, 3 mm bleed where images reach the edge, and a cover at the right size. See how to make a print-ready PDF.

    Read it on paper

    Read a few spreads from the beginning, middle and end. Open the book fully and check that no text disappears into the spine.

  4. 4

    Fix and upload again

    There's no setup cost, so a corrected PDF costs the same to print. If the page count changes, so do the spine and the cover size.

What to check in the proof

  • Margins: text at least 15 mm from the outer edges, nothing important within 3 mm of the trim.
  • Inner margin: lines near the spine readable without forcing the book open.
  • Colours: look at photos in daylight. Screens are brighter than paper, so lighten dark photos a little.
  • Spine: the title centred, none of it on the front or back.
  • Typos on the title page, in headers and on the back cover.
  • Chapters, page numbers and blank pages in the right order.

Can I print just one copy of a book?
Yes. There's no minimum order and you don't need an account.
How much does it cost to print one book?
A 100-page A5 paperback costs from €41.59, a 100-page A4 hardcover from €47.79. You see the price of your book as soon as you upload.
Is one copy more expensive per book than ten?
Printing costs about the same per copy, because there are no setup costs. Ordering several at once does save on shipping.
Do I need an ISBN to print one copy?
No. You only need an ISBN to sell a book through bookshops.
Can I order more copies later?
Yes, up to 50 per order at the same price per copy. We delete files 90 days after shipping, so keep your PDF and cover file.
