297 × 420 mm, or 303 × 426 mm with 3 mm bleed when colour runs to the edge. Canva's menu templates work: set them to A3 and download as PDF Print (Canva settings).

Other uses for A3
Notices
An A3 is readable from about 1.4 times as far as an A4, which helps on a crowded door or board.
Small art
Illustrations, linocut scans and typographic prints work well on A3, and three fit in a row above a sideboard.
Framed photos
A 12-megapixel phone photo prints at about 240 dpi on A3. Frame or hanger: A2 posters compares them, and the same goes for A3.
Mistakes we see on A3
- An image saved from Instagram, 1080 pixels wide. On A3 that's about 90 dpi, soft at reading distance. Use the original.
- A QR code smaller than 2 × 2 cm on a notice. Phones struggle to read it from a step away.
- Light grey text on a menu. In dim café light it disappears; use black.
- An A4 design exported as a small image and printed on A3. Export as PDF and it scales up sharp.
